I have x2 Upper Class tickets booked for travel in July 2006 LHR-SYD.

It looks as if I may not be able to take these reward flights.

Qu? 1. If cancelled, do I get all my mileage back
Qu? 2. If not, can I transfer the mileage to a different route, say JFK-LHR...
Qu? 3. and what happens to any balance I may be left with

Thanks (I did look through the T+C's but cannot find what I have asked here)

From memory, I think the standard "cost" is 25% of the miles; although I have a feeling this may be less - or none - for Golds (can't say I've ever canceled a reward, so I'm not speaking from personal experience). I think you can change an existing booking for a fee (probably about 25 quid), and again, I think this may be free for Golds.

I'd wait for confirmation from one of our resident experts on this matter; or better still, wait for LRoM to spot this thread...

From my experience, Golds don't get charged any change fee, or mileage penalty. I've had to do it twice before (unfortunately), and never had anything taken from my account or card.

I think the T's and C's are quite clear though (and don't differentiate for Au Status) - 25% penalty for cancelled reward tickets.

ukblue,
Welcome aboard VFlyer. I understand from your posting that these are full reward tickets, that is you paid nothing, versus an upgrade from another fare, correct? If so I think resident expert Pixuk (our founder) and Preiffer have spoken correctly: 25% penalty for cancellations (happened to me, unfortunately, but there is a point to all this, as reward seats are limited and meant to be parceled out to only the serious passenger).

Perhaps you'd be willing to change the tickets to another time?

Regards,
Chuck-

I did this earlier this year and they did just me 25% mileage penalty. I was gold at the time. I even bought a revenue ticket instead for exactly the same route/date/flight (needed the tier points).
Not sure about changes though, got to say this sounds less likely to be charged. Phone the gold team and ask them, then you will know for sure.

I think it also depends how close to departure you are.

I had to cancel two flights this year (booked in PE and upgraded to Upper with miles), one in October and one in December. The December one was cancelled and full miles credited back but the October one had the 25% miles penalty.

As you are not fkying until July im sure they will cancel and credit you back the entire milage balance, but the best thing is to call Prem and ask.

'the flying club have spoken'

1. change the dates but not the route 25GBP
2. to change the route I would have to cancel the ticket, take a 25% hit on the points and start again
3. to get my points back, again the 25%h it

They did take account of my Gold status, ad that the tickets are for July 06 flights, but basically (and in a very nice way) said tough a rules a rule!

I respect that, but hate to loss so many points 45,000 per ticket!!

Changing the dates seems to be the best route! Just change them to a year later :D.
