Morning All!

Quick question, did a search but couldn`t quite find what i needed to know.

I`m flying Virgin (VS7) into LAX Terminal 2 and then transfering to Amercia West in Terminal 1 and onto Vegas.

Question is: does anyone have any experience of this transfer, can you walk between terminals or is there another way of changing between the two. How long should i leave for the journey?

I`ve got a flight quite a bit after i land but i`m hoping i can rush through and try and get an earlier connetcing flight, don`treally want to spend 3 hours at the airport if i can help it.

Well, you can walk it, the airport is essentially a horseshoe shape, however you'll be at the mercy of immigration/baggge/customs.

I normally allow a couple of hours if I'm connecting to another LAX flight, however if it all really smoothly you may be in with a shot. If not, just kick-back and relax for a while.

It's worse than that. Traffic goes anti-clockwise from T1 upwards so if you need to go from T2 to T1 the bus takes you to every other terminal first.

It is easily walkable and made even easier by the fact that America West is the first airline you come to.

Everytime I have done this I have walked - its not very far - and its good to get some fresh air, and a quick stretech of the legs!

LMAO so true.

The one thing to consider is that T1 at LAX is also home to Southwest,if they are having a busy day then security can be a major pain,but for the most part it's an easy transfer.

We did this in Sept and only had 1 hour 55 mins for transfer and did it easily (even though we had to haul luggage due to BMI not understanding at MAN earlier in the day that we wanted to xfer luggage) we were in upper though and managed to get through immigration double quick (less than an hour from landing to HP checkin). There is an (I think) Air New Zealand flight that gets in just before VS007 so there may be a bit of a queue to get through, I'd give it 2 hours just to be safe.

Hi Bob,
The walk is the easy part. Jetwet1's warning about Southwest should not be taken lightly, however. You are arriving around 3pm local time, then there will be customs/immigration, etc. My guess is that you will be fine with getting through the T1 security, but, of course, the fewer pieces of luggage, the better.

BTW LA's air has become quite a bit cleaner than when I first moved here in '79. No longer a need for masks, I suspect.

Thanks for all the replies, luckily enough i bagged myself an UC ticket so shouldn`t be right at the back of the immigration lines!

Off the plane nice and quickly hopefully, however i have read here the 340-600`s used on these routes don`t park up at the terminal but on a remote stand, is that correct?

I believe I have seen photo's of the 346 parked at the gate. I think it is a matter of not being able to park a 346 next to another one (or possibly even a 747) as there is adequate clearance.

I stand to be corrected of course :)

When I was passing through LAX (BA, alas, but then £100/person is a lot...), there was a VS A346 at a gate. I think it's fine as long as it stays away from the Air China one...

IIRC the A346 needs a tug to manouvre itself on to the gate at LAX.

Some gates at LAX are classified as "tow in" due to the old construction here which placed various concourses too close to each other. Most of the terminals were built in the era of the 727. I usually see VS flights at the outer ring of the concourse, so unless there's a technical issue, I don't know why a tug would be necessary for those gates (except, of course, for the reasons stated above).

Flew NZ1 LHR LAX and we arrived 45 mins early and had to remain on the tarmac for 1/2 an hour until the VS A343 left the gate. Luckily as I was flying J pretty much first off the plane, thru Immigration and collected bags in 10 mins which must be a record for LAX.

Agreed on comments about T1 - it can get very very busy.

BTW....Terminal 2 is nothing to write home about.

When i was last in November there was not even a hint of smog.
