I arrived at manchester airport on the train at 3pm a little early for checkin to be open and so went in to the escape lounge using my gold card and passbook boarding pass.
After a drink or two in the lounge i stood by the window with one of the lounge staff to watch EI-DEO land to take the final flight down to LHR.
The lady from the escape lounge said that she would miss all of the VS pax as we have all been so nice to the lounge staff and it was a shame that the service was to end

After watching the aircraft land I made my way to gate 18 where the ground staff were chatting with staff and off duty staff/crew around the cate area, boarding was a few minutes late due to 'the late arrival of the inbound aircraft' but was completed swiftly.
I was pleased to see two of the Crew that I have come to know quite well working the front of this evenings flight.
The four crew onboard worked well together like most little red crews I have flown with over the past two years.
The captain made a short speech on his boarding announcement that it was his pleasure to be captain on this last VS3044 to LHR and explained that there would be a water cannon salute on departure and so we would stop on the taxiway before departure for some photos.
After the safety demonstration we made our way to the runway where the fire service were waiting for us.
(unfortunately my iPhone chose this moment to decide it was not going to take any video/photos and so i missed the opportunity but this is on instagram )
Throughout the flight the crew were in good spirits and service was faultless as always.
other than a spot of bumpiness on the climb out of Manchester and again at the top of the descent the flight was smooth above thick cloud most of the way breaking just to catch a glimpse of the O2/millennium dome as we made the turn over London to line up with 27L and a short view of the houses of parliament and London eye passing over Waterloo before dropping out of the cloud somewhere over Hounslow.
After landing the senior crew member gave a slightly emotional speech saying thank you to all of the frequent passengers on the route and staff pilots and other crew who have made the route a success to this point.
The line "we have been a splash of red in a weary world of grey" for a laugh and finishing with "we won't say goodbye so its just goodnight" got a round of applause from the whole aircraft.
I waited onboard until most PAX had left the aircraft to thank the crew for all their work over the last two years and the senior crew member for arranging the salute from the fire service as she said VS had not done this she had

Every one of my flights on Little Red to and from Manchester have been enjoyable and the service has been spot on. the Little Red crews will be missed by many myself included and a copy of this will go to VS @ Crawley to pass on my thanks to those of the MAN Little red base (especially R** who has been on nearly all of my MAN flights) who are for the next six weeks training to become mainline crew based at LHR.
These crew are a credit to Virgin Atlantic and I only hope to see them on a flight again soon.
