First trip on VS and we honestly weren't sure what to expect. All in all we had an awesome trip. We specifically strayed from Oneworld for this trip because we really wanted a daytime flight, and our only daytime option on BA was out of JFK which was just too far to drive for us.

Very early start and arrival to EWR around 6:30am, about a 90 minute drive from our home. The gate area was swarming with young college kids heading out on Spring Break to some island and, boy, they were giving their gate agent absolute fits running around and shrieking. At one point they actually commandeered one of the sorority heads to get on the intercom to practically beg everyone to sit down and be quiet.

Boarded right on time at 7:30. Loved the seats in the last row personally, although might not be to everyone's taste. Very private and no one behind tapping on their IFE or using your seatback to haul themselves up to the lav. Husband is 6'4" and over 250lbs and had plenty of room, although had to roll a bit sideways to get to his earphone jack. Received sparkling wine PDB from very, very personable staff. Breakfast was decent but not all that memorable. I'd saved the menus but sadly can't locate them.

Found the seat comparable to US Domestic F in both size and comfort. Legroom was wonderful this flight (bit less wonderful on the return!) and IFE choices plentiful. My only disappointment was that my headphones did not work and a requested replacement was also broken. I finally gave up and used my husbands iPhone headphones, although I would occasionally have to hold the jack in tight with my hand to get stereo sound.

We knew that sitting in last row we would get last choice for meals and indeed had only the option of the pasta, was was pretty sadly overcooked but certainly edible. Drink service more than sufficient with a drink before dinner, wine with, seconds if requested, and the aperitif after dinner.

Service was super and really set VS apart from my usual carriers. We chatted with one attendant and let her know we were going for a week in Cardiff. (Which, amusingly, even the Welsh responded to with, "Why?") Right before landing at LHR one of the UC attendants came back to our seat, said she'd was Welsh and heard we were going to Cardiff and couldn't be happier. She'd opened a bottle of wine in UC that had gone untouched and didn't want to see it wasted and thrown away. She handed us the full and recorked bottle to tuck away in our bag with a wink. It didn't fit in the bag, ironically, so my husband managed to make it through LHR customs and immigration with an uncorked bottle of wine in his inside pocket, "like a hobo."

Super introduction to VS. Our return flight didn't go quiet as smoothly but left me all the more impressed for the problems...

Great TR and I just love it when crew do things like that. When we flew to jfk last we had a bag full of chocolates, marshmallows and drinking chocolate.
I hope you enjoy Cardiff and all that it has to offer, I lived there for 10 years before moving and absolutly loved it.
I go most weekends and still miss my city centre lifestyle!
There's lots of great new restaurants that have just opened recently, if you need any tips drop me a msg.
