Sorry to have to tell you, but that war ended nearly 200 years ago. It is now illegal, and considered awfully bad form, to lob shells across the channel at our European partners.

As a little aside though, we decided we wanted to mount a small cannon on the boat for the recent fleet review (not joking!). The main purpose was to salute Her Majesty. However there was a French aircraft carrier in attendance.....

Anyway it was the devil's own business getting permission to fire a cannon in the presence of the Royal Family. But we eventually got it, and boy was it fun! About 3" bore with black powder going off on a 28' boat is quite interesting!
[B)][B)]

Anyway sorry to stray OT.[:#]

It might be considered illegal and bad form but if we can't hunt foxes I think the French would be a good substitute[ii]

Nah! They can't run as fast as foxes.[:0]

Rather than thinking as this having gone OT, I prefer to think of it as a sort of creative flow of ideas and observations:D. However I am perfectly willing to be dragged back on topic, if that is what people want - just let me know what the original topic was, as i don't think I really ever understood the original post!

Guys and gals

I know the "French" joking is a large part of Brit culture but remember the forum FAQs...

We strictly enforce a non-discrimination policy on V-Flyer, and any posts which are blantly racist, sexist, homophobic or discriminate against others in any way are likely to be deleted and your account may also be suspended, following review by the moderation team..

Try substituting Gay/Female/African for French in the above thread and I'm sure you'll see where we're coming from.

CSP,you've been a member here for two years, you may off noticed that when a person come's here, does a little trolling, get's slapped around by the mods, the topic then becomes pretty much a free for all till we get bored and move on to a real topic or one of the mods lock's it down.

but there is a big difference, they are not French! :D
Sorry Decker, but that is just PC nonsense.

Remember everyone, from now on, please do not call your furry fourlegged pet (sorry, "pet" means you own them, not acceptable to the PC brigade, please say "companion") a "dog" as this is discriminatory, they must be called anglo-canine, or if you are in the USA, Canine-American.

Alan thats BS,now I am one of the biggest S%#t starters on this forum, but I understand where Decker is coming from.

It's part of the mod duties to make sure that the threads don't turn into a flamming war, which trust me they will, this very thread is proof of that.

You've been on here long enough to know how the boards are run and the difference between a friendly jab and just insulting someone.

Someone new to the forum may not know the person who is making the "unpc" remark and make take offence to it,then all hell is let lose.

Now as Decker did say french bashing is something of an english pasttime,of course so is Irish bashing etc,im sure they do the same to us,it's all part of life, but there comes a time where it has to stop on here before someone get's upset and make's their feeling heard.

So Decker [y]

edited to change americanish to english :D

For those who have seen Avenue Q can you guess which song I'm thinking of at the moment?

I was going to try and get back to the topic, but I think thats pretty much a lost cause now.

As a Welshman my grasp of English history isnt great...however wasnt there the small matter of a Norman invasion back in 1066.

Us Celts have gotten used to sharing our little island with you French people since then, even if you forgot how to cook as well as your cousins back in the old country.

OOOOO Errrrrrr....got me where I live there. If William Web Ellis hadnt decided to cheat at football and pick the ball up then we'd be arguing about curling I suppose (with the Scots being the World Champs).

Ironically Mr Ellis died in the south of France in 1872 but even at that advanced age he didnt have a bad word to say about the level of service from Virgin's Cabin Crew.

A small matter Adam, but any self respecting Norman would be horrified to hear you call him French. From the 9th Century through to the 12th (ISTR) Normandy was an independent Dukedom , although it did pay it's due to France in terms of a portion of its army on "wet lease" and a few tithes/taxes. However it was very much a separate country, in spirit if not in politic, a fact that some Normans would argue still applies today!

William the Conqueror was also very complementary in the doomsday book about VS cabin crew.
