We are on our way to Anime Boston and then a quick Caribbean cruise over Easter. We are parents , daughter age 20 (writing review with Mum) and son age 17. We usually fly Virgin UC about 3 times a year but it is August since we last flew and a lot has changed in the Virgin world since then.

Sailed through the drive through check-in. We usually do purple parking but the last 2 times we have had issues and so this time my Dad drove us through and then went to park the car. Great April fool as he neglected to tell us there was an ipad in the bag and we got pulled over in security- Mum was fuming.

Then to the lounge. Treatments booked. 3 haircuts, 2 facials, 2 nails, I eyebrows, I make up- £185 well spent.

Water… then the 1st bramble. No chewy sweets- fox’s glacier fruits and mints plus the usual toffees. We love the fruit chewy sweets but no more. Burger x 2 and fish and chips x 2 and we are ready to go

On board- you can tell how good a crew are going to be before you leave the ground. 3 glasses of champagne pre take off (well my mum said it didn’t taste like Lanson ) and the crew confirmed it was an English sparkling wine. Quite apple tasting and less tart than Lanson.

We are in a dreamliner? plane- so old style suite but brand new. Some of the crew haven’t flown if before. The hunt for the USB involved 3 crew. As always we have chosen seats facing the wall. It feels very new- great overhead luggage space. Looking good so far.

Lots of 1st time UC flyers- selfie city. The children have been taken up to meet the captain. Couple have boarded last and are not seated together- another flyer moved to accommodate them which is very decent as moving from front of k to the back opposite the back of the bar.

Ground staff are still onboard so it must be heading for a late take off as it is already 1pm (scheduled for 1.05)

Westerley departure- Heathrow very busy. Going over Wales and then Newfoundland and Canada to Boston. The jet stream is over Ireland.

13.04 and no sign of going. Ground staff still on board. Cabin crew discussing who is going into the cockpit for take off. I crew member now locked in.

169 on board and 14 crew, UC not full- 10 seats are empty. Slight hilarity as the crew cannot work out how to set the seat belt signs-few seem to have been on this type of plane before.

2 crew are wearing brown – I assume that brown the new black?

13.21 and finally moving. Sitting alongside a BA and a germanwings (sad as a week ago I wouldn’t have given it a second thought). The germanwings has gone and there are 3 BA ahead of us Iand , a delta and air italia and a plane with an red and orange sunburst/flower tail fin.

Th BA are double decker big plane, medium and quite small so they look like a family. Air Canada are on our tail now hotly pursued by Singapore Airlines and another BA (that family is growing!)

1.40 wheels off the ground. Bit wobbly. ¾ of family are asleep!

So food- I have endless picture but cant get them to add.

They did the full wine set up which has been missing on recent flights

No afternoon tea- I guess thats gone as the flight moved 2 hours earlier but it
is the equivalent of 8pm by landing and we are all peckish.

The bar wasn’t busy. Went up twice and both times got instant attention-the second time was the FSM who had a long chat. So active- certainly set the expectations for her crew.

Looking very snowy coming in over Canada. Crew doing a drinks run.- we had more mojito- most opted for coffee

last time on this flight in July we were 2 hours in immigration. Today new machines. Sailed through. I was pulled over as brand new passport but rest of family were just let in

2.46 out to taxi rank

Fabulous flight all round.
