Myself and Mrs D1009 tried UC to MCO and back in June 2014 and absolutely loved it, so much so that we did it again last month and again had a wonderful experience :-D as others have said it's the whole experience which for us started in the Clubhouse, the problem is we want to go UC all the time now, I love the 747 and will be gutted when they've gone, I've only flown Economy on the 330 so can't comment on UC, you'll love the UC experience though so enjoy :-)

I thought that was just a rumour.

Will be surprised if true! What a waste of money when they still manage to sell the seats.

People complain on BA that there isn't direct aisle access in J, but BA still manage to fill them all so are sticking with the layout and adding more on some aircraft!

Are they selling them though?

I know V-Flyer isn't a particularly good barometer of general opinion but how many of us actively try to avoid the 330 if an alternative is available? And if we're doing that, how many others are?

FWIW I've also been told this is happening. As VS people from SRB down kept saying in the ITV series, they want to be different. And if all they keep hearing is complaints about UC in the 330s, changing them can't hurt.

Maybe I should of said "If they van still sell the seats", more of what was in my mind.

Would be good if it happens though, as I have also avoided the 333. Though if people, like me, just find an alternative flight on VS, they aren't loosing revenue, as I have still purchased a seat with them, I haven't gone on the competition for that planned flight.

I suspect that the vast majority of people who book a flight take little or no interest in what aircraft they are flying on. What they want to know is, does it get them from A to B on a day and time that suits them and for what price?

Also I expect most passengers who fly on a VS 330 in UC find it perfectly acceptable, or better.

The members of forums like this one are never representative of the general population are they? We are mostly travel-obsessed, airline fantics with geeky natures :-O

Or maybe that's just me? :)

Also, some people don't like the 747 nose seats (I've seen a couple request to move seats once); they found it 'too intimate'. :-O

......hmmm , not sure if this is covered elsewhere ..... but what is the main problem with 12A & 12K please? we have them for a flight to MIA..... our feet may meet , but I don't see that being too much of a problem. What are the pros and cons?

I think it's down to personal choice, the cabin is much emptier at the back of the nose section, and feels more spacious - row 19 is my personal choice, 18&19 when traveling as a pair.

Personally I like 12+14A&K as a group of 4, but not 12A&K as a pair, as you are still quite close (not too close) to the row behind (14)

Great!

We all know from chatting with the crew, the A330 doesn't work for them as much as it's uncomfortable for us!
We look for comfort, they look for functionality...
I've read umpteen reviews on the A330 cabin...the massive majority negative.

Virgin strive to be different...maybe listening to the people who choose to fly Virgin will make them winners in the end!

We all avoid the A330! Who's to say the ppl who have no choice to fly on it but know nothing don't complain?

I'd agree with it being personal choice. I like 12A/K if in a couple.

There are many many pros, already listed on v-flyer. One minor con I've not seen mentioned: because the nose curves in, if one of you sits on the ottoman (to dine together, for example) you can basically see everyone else in the entire front section (and they can see you).

After a few years in the wilderness from Virgin we took 4 sectors from DXB-LHR-IAD and back and all were on the A333. I had heard all the negative reports about the seat and cabin and the front loo being locked (now I understand why), but we had 4 terrific flights all in UC. It is still a great experience and we made the most of it. The kids rated it way above EK business class, I was pleasantly surprised they still had the sparkle. However like every airline the crew made the difference and on all 4 sectors they were great.
The 747 will always be our favourite ( and I am sure many others) but it is just getting too expensive to operate.

Go, enjoy, and but make up your own mind.

FWIW, when me and my husband went to Vegas and I got us the nose seats, he complained bitterly that there was no overhead locker above his seat (because there isn't on that configuration), so although I really love those seats, my husband would rather sit further back in the cabin and keep an eye on the overhead locker with his bag in!

Hey all, so i managed to bag a load more miles using numerous Amex tricks so it looks like I'll be going out and coming back in upper too :)

The flights have barely cost more in tax than a standard economy ticket anyway, so will sit back and enjoy every minute of it including both the clubhouses and maybe even a half decent sleep on the way back.

Thanks again for all your responses, i will try and put a trip report in for the new year!

So I wasn't sure if it was good for to resurrect this old thread from the past or not... but i have, so hi everyone!

Bad news: I ended up parting company with my travel partner before i took this trip.

Good news: I have a replacement trip booked to NYC in 3 weeks! Flying out on VS3 on 30th in PE and back 5th on VS46 in UC which is a shiny new 787-9 so hopefully will get a nice sleep before freshening up and heading straight to work on the 6th.

No clubhouse on the way out is a shame but couldn't justify the miles or the expenditure, but will try out the T3 No1 lounge and see what it has to say, will give JFK a good once over before boarding and hopefully passing out for a decent amount of time on the way back!
