Hello, I just checked out flights to Sydney and UCS came up at £2,700,
with 42K miles earnings added to my ff ac which is fab for the flight too, anyone done this flight what was it like and does it stop anywhere.

Also would Sydney be a good place for a camp teddy like me to go to,
and what time of year is bestest.

That is a good price. We go at the end of Feb UCS - just thinking about it makes me all bouncy. We are using one of Dean's companion tickets, which got us a price slightly cheaper then yours when we split the J fare. And the 42K miles is definately a bonus.

We are going non-stop on the way out, other then for a few hours at HKG to refresh ourselves and allowing them to clean the plane and change the crew. Then on the return we stop off for five nights.

Don't know if you would be able to have a picnic in the woods but I'm sure you could on the beach looking at the boys. Hell I will be. [:w] The mary scene down there is very varied which is good, plenty of retro bars, dance / house music *shudder* clubs, camp clubs, and I am advised some fabulous drag shows, and some really nice bars to chat, drink and fall out drunk.

Good time of year, not really sure we are going when we are because of a trade show Dean is going to, which also happens to be a week before Mardi Gras which we are definately going to! Its there summer right now so baking hot, with the possibility of rain.

There will be plenty of trip reports to follow, hotel reports and many many photos on here for related stuff and my website for all the other photos.

Hello EGG

We're going there in Feb for 10 nights, then back via HKG for 5 nights. We did with a J and companion ticket so the price of the one ticket works out about the same as your quote.

Will have a massive TR afterwards (think Fozzyo is doing the flights and I'll do the hotels):D

Also hoping it'll be good for us camp teddies. Although not planned as I'm going for a trade show it's worked out Mardi Gras will be on whilst we're there. So hoping for a good time!

EGG

Best time of year for SYD would be our Winter for sure - lovely weather to escape to, and occasionally a good priced fare to be had.

Incidentally, what dates were you looking at to get that fare? Richard and i were pondering doing SYD - and for that value with that many miles its a real deal.

I have done the flight down to HKG but thats where i got off. That flight was fab, though i cant quite imagine getting back on again for another round. There are a few LHR-SYD trip reports in that part of the board though which you should have a look at.

When you are out there, you might want to check out Oxford Street in the evenings as its the heart of the scene ;)

ps Edit for highflyer.

Sorry flower I missed your post before posting mine. I searched for November 2006 and it came up with that price, couldn't believe it when I saw it, it just said LON - SYD UCS and I was wondering how it got all that way without stopping lol.

It's very hot at Sydney during Winter (Summer in Australia), on the day of the flight, when I had to transfer from the domestic terminal to the internatinal terminal, I had to walk outside and it was... 43 degrees!! Rain is a possibility in summer, though surprisingly, it was clear skies for the whole of my trip.

I recommend going to Darling Harbour or the fish market for seafood straight from the nets..

For anyone interested I posted a TR for my trip in UCS down to SYD last May.

Having done the same trip a year earlier in BA WT+, you can guess at the difference.

In terms of the flights themselves, which I did without a stopover as it was business, they are AWFULLY long, and its the second leg that really can take the stuffing out of you; and to cap it all you arrive into Sydney at 6-7am. Even with the obvious benefits of UCS, its still a somewhat shattering piece of travel. The flight was very busy LHR-HKG but HKG to SYD was almost deserted up the front.

I've never been great at sleeping on flights, flat-bed helps but is not the cure for all ills. So, I took myself off to the bar and that helped pass some time.

I have to say even though it was west-bound flight coming back the LHR leg really seemed to take forever.

All that said, Oz is a great place and worth the long trip - but boy does UCS help.

Feel free to email me any questions.

Cheers.

Viz.

Thanks Vizbiz.

I'm doing the route in 29 days and 9 minutes, and will also post a comprehensive TR on my return :)

Quick question about the stopover at HKG. I understand you get a sticker to inform staff that you are in transit? what is this all about?

Plus, how far is it to the club house from the gate, and in the 1.5 hour turn around, do you have much time in the clubhouse?
