Hello from the EK Lounge in Melbourne.

Thought I would post a positive lounge greeting as I have not been able to do so on here for a little while. Emirates were really polished today and check in were even able to check my bags through on my BA flight to LHR tomorrow. It is something that worried me a little at first, but the check in agent knew exactly what I was up to, (the ex-DUB trick is quite well known to EK) after all someone has to fill their new A380 out of and into DUB next year :-P He did need to see my booking email, to confirm the flight and cabin I was booked into, but all went off without a hitch.

There are stories in the dark depths of the internet that deal with the vagueness of interlining with more than one PNR to deal with... the short of it is that it is entirely possible with most long haul carriers, but sadly completely up to the check in staff that you deal with on the day. Never be afraid to give it a try.

Service in the lounge so far has been great and they even found some rugby for me to watch on tele (AFL finals, but close enough) Food is good with a fair selection available and yes photos will again follow - no mystery sandwiches to test my stomach lining this time around.

My flight ahead is 14hrs and 5 mins long on an A380, so there may very well be a Joeyc saying howdy ho from 40K feet to look forward too.

And I may have just finished the Jack Daniels bottle.... oh dear

Well in the land of random beeps we also have a bit of mystery... my SEQ is 505. EK capacity on tonight's A380 is 488!!!

I've asked the lounge staff to investigate as this would indicate that the SEQ number generated is in fact not the order in which someone has checked in... watch this space. ;-)

I suspect this is because your flight is split into two legs (Auckland-Melbourne-Dubai?). Some people will be getting off at MEL to be replaced by new pax (you!) for the leg to DXB, therefore the total number of pax on the combined flight will be more than 488.

Theory 1.

SEQ numbers on EK are apparently generated at the seat selling time. And with TAs etc the same seat may well be sold many times over....,people cancel and/or change schedules etc. And each time a new SEQ number will be issued.

Theory 2, which might also feature Theory 2..

Additionally, where you are joining a flight in transit, say from AKL to DXB via MEL at Melbourne your SEQ number doesn't start from 1 it apparently starts from wherever the numbers ended at the point on origin.

it is all very confusing but meaningless as far as check-in order is concerned.

PS. I cannot remember the highest I have got but it was well over 600.
