Tier points - help need

OK, just a quick one for you gurus.
I have 10 points, another 5 and I'm silver, but how does it work?.

I earnt 10 points in May 2005.
I'm looking to fly UC in May 2006, LGW-MCO-LGW.
5 points for the 1st leg, does that mean I get silver straight away and then be entitled to the silver bonus miles for the return leg?

If I get Silver for the LGW-MCO leg will the return tier points be the first 5 of the 10 needed to retain Silver or are they included in the previous years total and I have to wait until June to start earning to retain Silver?

Nice side step Nick , Yes you will earn Ag bonus on your return leg although if they arn't that quick with the update a call maybe needed.

The return leg will not count towards retention UNLESS you year renews whilst you are away. Essentially you only start on the retention track once you membership year has ended. To see when yours end, check your tier point status online.

I've read Richards excellant guide and my outward trip will take me to Silver. This will become my new (first)milestone anniversary date.

Paul, if I am reading Richards guide correctly then my return trip will be the first tier points towards retentention of Silver.

The following is copied from the guide.


"As soon as you hit the 15 TP mark, your account is upgraded almost immediately and that becomes your first milestone anniversary date (M1).
From M1 you then have a 13 month period to earn another 10 TP to retain Silver."

You're correct Chris - your membership year is only fixed, with retention starting from the new membership year when you turn Gold. Red & Silver work on a rolling "TPs earned in the last 12 months" basis.

OK, I stand corrected, been Gold for so long now. I just wish as soon as I hit 30 TPs I could start collecting for retention again.

I do agree with this one - there's very little incentive for an Au member to fly in the membership year once renewal's been reached...

Aside from the obvious incentive of you actually get somewhere , or do we only fly for TPs now .

But yeah, I will have racked up 30 TPs in 4 months (and no runs) on a combination of Y S and Z fares with some Continental F thrown in. Seems a bit of a shame to not get any use of the other 20 TPs or so I will earn in the following months.

I thought the whole point of travelling was to enjoy the trip, not to get anywhere?

Nay, nay, and thrice nay Remember you're in the company of those that spend, sleep, drink & fly to earn miles (as well as the odd purposeful trip of course)
