Hi,

I've done a quick search and can't find anything that looks familiar... When I was on VS from JFK before Christmas, I overheard one of the FA's telling a passenger that they would be getting new uniforms designed by Vivienne Westwood in the near future! Was this just idle chat or are the amazing John Rocha one's being consigned to history for some radical new look? If so, does anyone have any news/images/descriptions of what's changing...

Thanks in advance,
Scott

(desperately saving up for another VS trip to NYC this autumn!)

Interesting you should say that. I flew back from BOS couple weeks back. I overheard FSM talking to F.A, couldn't quite pickup on the conversation in full but Viv Westwood was mentioned on a few occasions.

As you say the John Rocha uniform is the absolute Biz, it's gonna have to be something special to make an improvement to what's already in use...... [y]

Yes we're getting new uniforms but not for another few years.

Unless you wear the John Rocha uniform, you really don't know it's many, MANY faults.

The John Rocha uniform is nice to look at but its made very cheap and not so nice to wear.

We are getting a new uniform in 2008 and the final designer has not been chosen yet but Vivian Westwood is one of the final 5.

No doubt Fozz has got some funny westwood hats then, lol.

I much rather see the ladies in Dior or YSL. and the boyz in Armani.

I have to say, despite it being the "Dark Side", I really like the Julien Macdonald uniforms that BA now have. They look classy and professional, while being practical, and there's no hideous patterns - remember the old BA dresses? [:$]

Cheers,

Cool... so 2008 it is! I presume we're not allowed to know who else is in the running then?! ;)

The current kit looks great in the airport and on-board, but I guess if it's a pain to wear that takes away from it quite a bit. Is 2008 to tie in with the arrival of A380s? (Damn I'm being nosey!)

Don't know who else is in the running I'm afraid. The company did look at bids from established and new designers before drawing up the shortlist.

Although the current uniform does have some quality issues, it is very comfortable to wear and I think it looks really good.

Yes, 2008 is to tie in with the arrival of the 1st A380 (and possibly a new livery as well..)

Yup, it certainly does look good (let's hope in the next version they don't have you in a skirt Marc :D)

New livery? hmmm, I'm not sure if this is good news or not - I simply love the current VS livery, it would have to be something pretty special to replace it!

Otherwise it could be more proof that change is not good (excuse the soccer am gag!)

Like my fellow crew on the site I have heard of a new uniform in a few years (2008?) but have not heard of any designer to date though I think those in the office have made a shortlist.

It will have to be good to compete with the current design which looks good, even though not all that practical.... Unless you have had to wear it you wouldnt appreciate that.

As male crew I would like the Waistcoat to disapear... As it acts as a extra thermal layer making us too hot when the females only wear a blouse and are cold turn the temperature up and make us hotter.... etc...etc...

but I could say most of my female collegues are Hot in their own right

Had at chat with ***** on VS44 on 10/11 Feb in the bubble and she confrimed that they are getting Vivienne Westwood, which is going very retro, back to the old fashioned 1960's style, with gloves, hats, fur collared coats etc and more purple than red.

Look forward to seeing what it will eventually look like on everyone.

I think you will find that it still being worked on and no final designer has yet been picked.

With 2008 being the year for new uniforms I'd be surprised if they had decided on a designer yet. Uniforms has only just come back in-house this month so I think they are a but busy with the new warehouse etc at the moment to be choosing designs.

I know the current crew / passenger services uniform looks good albeit not the most practical for the wearer but I really think they need to do something with the uniform for the ground staff other than check-in, ie engineers, tco's, baggage agents etc.
