Does anybody know what VS's position is on the use of the tail and downfacing camera's on the A642....??

Is it a financial reason for why the are not being used or are they not compatible with V-Port???

ISTBC, but I think there was a thread round here somewhere that said that V-port could handle camaras. However I don't think there was an explanation of why VS choose not to use them.

The camera's on the A340-600 are only there for the benefit of the flight deck.

On the ground they can see what doors are open and what is around or attached to the A/C.
In the air they can use it for emergency purposes E.G if an engine was on fire, or the status of the under carridge.

This camera system is only connected to the flight deck. The entertainment system is controlled in the cabin, I think it would cost too much to link the two up!!

We went to Luxor a few years ago with Egypt Air and watched the take off on the forward facing camera. It was quite spectacular but also a little wierd. I can't remember what the aircraft was though.

The A346 cameras are used to aid the taxi-ing of the aeroplane. Due to the length of the aeroplane it is more difficult to manouver than others, hence no cameras on the A343.

Thanks for that vscss :D. As sailor99 has pointed out, this has been discussed before, as several other airlines use the facility. I don't think that the reason VS don't has been pointed out before though. Always nice to get knowledge / opinions from those on the inside. [8D]
