Just looked at seat map for our flight to LAX in September and see it's now a 747-400 instead of A340-600. Anyone know if this is just a one off, perhaps seasonal or maybe a long term arrangement?

James,
Just checked Expert Flyer for that date and it shows a 346 but the seat map is for a 747. So, we shall wait and see if one of our ops friends knows anything.

We had 2K & 3K on the A340-600, following the switch to 747 we're still in 2K & 3K which puts us upstairs. The reviews on Seat Ratings are all pretty good for upstairs UCS so I reckon I'll leave us where they've put us for the moment :) Agree though about the VPORT, not guaranteed now [n]

Airbus, I should have mentioned we had 17G & 17K last Sept going to SFO. Great seats (as I presume are 16G & 16K) - not too close to bar but only a stone's throw if you do fancy strolling over :)

I do hope so, I really do not like the A346 and I travel this route a lot.

VS-008, looking at the seat-map is still a 346-600 for 2/20. [:?] I hope they change it to a 747.

Looked in April & August and it a 744 again. Maybe they will change it back for the summer season?

Hi

Just checked our outbound VS07 on the 7/7 and the seat map has changed to a 747. My daughter and I are travelling on an outright UC reward plus an L to G upgrade and as a result were given two seperate booking references. I was assured that the bookings were linked so if there was an equipment change we would be seated together. Guess what? The 2 original seat allocations of 5K and 6K have been transferred from the planned 346 across to the 747 - only problem being one is upstairs and the other downstairs!. Quick call to FC silver has sorted this out, but revealed that there was no indication that the bookings were linked[n]. I've asked for a note to go on the system so that if there are further equipment changes this doesn't happen again. Overall not unhappy with the outcome. Although no guarantee of VPORT will be travelling in our favourite 6A & K now on the 747:D

Regards

Pat

When it's busy it's a 747. If we were sending it out now as a 747 the company would probably lose a lot of money. That route is dead!

Lipstick,

Are you suggesting there's a risk that the 7/8 run may be merged into the 23/24? Maybe reading too much into one comment, but "That route is dead" doesn't sound good...

The route is not so busy in the winter hence the VS7 being on an A340-600. Its not dead though.

In the summer its a very popular route and will be going back to a B747-400.

There is chance that we will ever stop the VS7.

My July booking is back to the B744 which is excellant.

However my previously selected seats are of course all over the place!

I am not sure about the comments about the route being dead, I travelled on the VS07 this week and the A346 was packed.

DOH [n]

Don't get me wrong, I like 747's.......but

Off to LAX at the end July. Was hoping for the 346 as back in cattle class it has better seating options for a family with two kids PLUS on a 346 at least you know it will be V:Port.

Even the 343 we flew to NYC in Nov seemed to have more legroom and was quieter in economy than the 747.

Ahh well, just have to resign myself to expect Odyssey and be pleasantly surprised if it's V:Port.

there is only 1 odyssey 744 operating out of LHR so the odds are favorable to v:port

Yup - and I ended up on it on Sunday from San Francisco... [n]

Oh well - in fairness, it's been so long since I've had an aircraft with Odyssey, I had to spend a few moments working out how to use it again!

The 1 remaining Odyssey LHR 744 is going to be transferred to LGW by Summer 2006. There is also a possibility that a v:port 744 may be LGW bound this year.

There must be a fair amount of equipment juggling going on as the VS007 change to an A346 was supposed to be permanent....

Marc, when you say permanent, do you mean, barring operational requirements, the 7&8 were to be operated year round by the 600 or was it planned to be a permanent seasonal change, viz, winter schedule 600, summer schedule 744?

Thanks again Marc. It was expected that she would move over, but good to know that there will be another Odyssey plane at LGW

Even better for LGW, but if this does happen, it kind of heralds the slow start of potentially all the 744s leaving LHR for LGW. While i have no problems with the Airbusses, the day that there isnt a VS 744 at LHR will be a sad day for me!

Am I to understand that all my moaning and whining about no V-PORT planes at LGW may finally be paying off? YIPPEE! [y]

But, there may only be one, so you'll moan and whine when you don't get to fly on it... ;)

Queue a whole string of "Which aircraft?" threads... [:w]

But, back to the thread, I'm wondering if VS7 went A340-600 to free up a 744 for the CPT rotation?

I'll also miss the VS 744s if they are to go completely. The "battery hen" A346 UC cabin, and poor PE cabin when compared to the 744 are just a turn off for me. If the 744s go totally, I'll start looking for other options.

Mike I share your sentiments, SFO starts to look more attractive even though it means a short internal, at least you can chill in the CH [y]
