Combining points

Hi, My partner and I have two seperate flying club accounts, and once we take our next two booked flights, we will have 16 tier points each. But, we mostly travel with kids, and they won't be able to earn points until we are gold members. Are we allowed to combine both our accounts into one, we we would have 32 tier points instead, and could get to gold quicker, or does it not work like this? Thanks.

You cannot combine tier points on Flying Club accounts. They are only ever earned by an adult member, who is sitting in the seat (ie: not the person who PAID for the booking) and are only valid for 12 months (or 12+ if silver/gold) please see the excellent guide to Miles/Tier Points as the 'sticky' topic at the top of this forum.

When you get to 16 TP (provided that was within 12 months) you will each become SILVER members. You will THEN have 12 months to get 40 Tier Points to become GOLD. Once you are a gold member, you can arrange family accounts for up to three six children, where they will earn miles (no TP) on VS flights.

Thanks Juliet, that makes it clearer - and it would obviously be better to try to get to Gold within 12 months of reaching silver. But would 2 adults and two children be allowed on the same card, and if so, would both adults flight count towards the tier points? Thanks.

Each traveller will require their own card. Only the person 'sitting in the seat' can earn the miles/TP. Children under the age of 12 cannot be members, unless linked with a FC GOLD member (ie: parents) so children under 12 without GOLD member parents cannot earn FC miles at all under the Flying Club Programme.

If they are 12 or over, you can enrol them, but you will need to ring and ask for a form, as ot needs a parent/guardian signature to all them to enrol.

Minor clarification here... if one of you makes Au it's then up to 6 family members from 2-17 and once you or your partner are Au they can nominate the other as a "supplementary Flying Club Silver Account for someone aged 18 years or over sharing your home address.". That way ALL miles could go to the one account although as Juliet says TPs are only earned by the flyer.

Further to the other replies, tier points can never be combined in any fashion. A passenger must personally earn 15 in 12 months for silver or 40 in 12 months for gold. Once a member of the household achieves gold status the miles can be pooled, but this has no effect whatsoever on tier points. However, it takes only 30 points in a year to renew Gold status.

Hugh Grant (living in London, near the blue travel bookstore) travels a bunch on VS and makes gold. Hugh Grant meets Carrie Bradshaw (living in NYC) when she walks in the store looking for a book. They meet and she does the NY/LON thing and makes gold.

After the triple miles promo, both have tons of miles but not enough in each account for a SYD reward in SQ F(440K). (Hugh 500K, Carrie 400K)

Could Carrie make Hugh her SSA and Hugh make Carrie his SSA (assuming they moved to London and now live at same address)?

Looks like the rules check out on this. Sorta addressed in SSA rule 16.

[}:)]In answer to your question, well.... Yes (sort of). As long as the SS member shares the same address with the Gold member, and they fill out the appropriate forms.

there are no prohibitions about making a Gold member SSA of the other, (as mentioned in the T&C about keeping the one Gold Sup to the other in terms of miles transfers) but most people wouldn't really think about it.

It is not generally done (nor is it expected to be done) but it is not against the T&C's specifically.

But then they are not true SSA accounts are they? As each member is actually Gold. Unless one dropped a tier to become a Silver and then merged it up as a SSA.

I seem to recall that in the instance of a SSA reaching enough TP to reach Gold they form their own Gold account but then this would appear not via the rule:

p) If a SSA holder earns sufficient tier points to qualify for Gold status under the Flying Club Terms & Conditions, the account will immediately revert into a Flying Club Gold account. Flying Club Terms & Conditions will then apply, although, the original Gold member may still spend miles from the Supplementary Account, unless we are advised otherwise.

Therefore it would only be combinign in one direction.

Mrs D and I as dual Au just have permission to use miles out of the other's account. Works the same as an SSA but less hassle.
