Booking Gs

Apologies if this has already been discussed at length here but I have a couple of questions about the elusive G tickets.

In the past I've always booked my flights first then accomodation to get the best deal. However if I were to book a hotel more than 330 days out what's the usual plan for grabbing G fares. Looking at going to MCO from either MAN or LGW. Do they typically go online when flights are released? I guess there's a lot of luck involved.

Also how do you then book a return? I might be wrong but are one-way fees more than half of the value of return fees on rewards flights? Can you link bookings together and only pay the equivalent fees for a return journey?

Firstly G fares on the Orlando route are rare and sought after because there are only 14 seats in the Upper cabin and not all will be offered as reward seats.
They do come up, and I have had a few. Usually they come up a little bit after the seats are first released but it is worth checking as soon as the seats come up.
The two singles, booking has been discussed recently and the way to do it is;
book your outbound as soon as reward seats are available as a one way. Wait and you risk losing them.
As soon as the return becomes available call and amend your booking to a return.
I have just done this a couple of days ago and had to pay £30 but that was because I was also changing my outbound date. It would have been free if there was no date change.
If Upper is a priority over route it is worth considering either going via Atlanta, or flying to Miami and driving up.
