I am looking for a holiday to Dubai in March and our preferred dates have us flying back on VS' last flight out of DXB on March 31st. Would anyone have any issue booking the final flight? For some reason I'm feeling a bit nervous of cancellation or something. Any idea of there will be some weird event going on that I'd rather not be a part of? I'm hoping not as pulling a route doesn't seem a reason for celebration to me.

You shouldn't have any issue unless there's some sort of tech problem.

I doubt there will be any sort of event either, there will probably be a water cannon salute and maybe an announcement from the Captain/FSM to commemorate the route ending!

Go for it :-)

Even in the unlikely event that the flight’s cancelled VS still has to get you home, so they’d just rebook you on BA or EK.

Likewise, redeemed 3 G tickets for last Sunday, coming back on the same flight as you. I hope they do something to mark the end of the route.

How does it work on a redemption ticket? Anybody have any ideas, booked a G class ticket for 31st March, a bit worried if they do cancel (apparently possible strike looming on VS) what do they do with clients on Redemption tickets?

Really not hoping for a downgrade but would rather take a downgrade than being
abandoned in DXB.

Cash or redemption booking they are still responsible for getting you to your destination.

The only strike I see mentioned is a possible one of cabin crew over Easter (3 weeks after your flight). I'm not even certain if the union is balloting members yet and in any case they have to give 2 weeks notice of strike action following a ballot.

Well, the very last LHR-DXB has just taken off, with G-VNYC doing the honours.
I’ve flown this route a lot over the past couple of years and will miss it.

All the best to the fabulous staff in the VS section of the Marhaba Lounge at DXB T1 - they were superb and an absolute credit to the VS brand.

Matt - do let us know how the final flight back to LHR was...

I've also just watched it leave on FlightRadar24, there may have been tears.

Sadly I was unable to make either of the last flights, although I did manage to say an almost teary farewell to many of the staff at DXB a few weeks back.. Like you mattyp I will miss this route a lot. The staff, as always, are a credit to the VS brand, and have always done well by me.

I am reminded of the HKG CH closure and the SYD route closure that meant a lot to me too, thank you to all of the VS staff that genuinely made my trips all that more memorable each and every time. You will be missed, and I am sure I speak for myself and all others that frequented this route in wishing you all the best for whatever the future may hold for you.

Thank you.

Since I was asked to report back, I apologise for the delay.

The final VS401 in UC was very good. All the staff in DXB were happy and engaging, despite the fact that I heard (rumour only, but trusted source) that most of them will be out of a job now. Boarding was on time and seemed very quick. I didn't see it happen, but the ground staff handed the crew a cake and there were some tears amongst the crew as the door was closed. The captain and FSM made reference to the final flight with their announcements. And the cake was shared around in Upper (at least) later in the flight. Other than that, you wouldn't have known it was the last flight at all if you ask me. The crew were excellent throughout the flight and we arrived slightly early I think. Great flight.
