Economy Row 62 - VS045

Got my flights confirmed today , whilst on phone I was asked if I had any seating preferences (i dont really, just space/legroom , usually my only preference is an aisle seat) anyways, girl suggested one of the 4 rows at back that have only 2-seats, instead of the 3 the rest of economy has.
Just wondering your views on these seats? Location etc?
Ive read the seat reviews posted elsewhere & seems to suggest its good seats.
Whilst I cant disagree they are "good" due to ensuring no-one will sit beside us, I do have a couple of general concerns:
1) We`ll pretty much be last off plane, thus @ back of queue for immigration. Doesnt bother me greatly, but if I was 100 places up in the queue it would be preferable .
2) Presumably we`ll be last served meals on board & whilst Im not overly fussed about inflight meal - id rather chose what I was not enjoying rather than be left with the choice no-one wanted.
Are these factors enough to merit moving to the front of the plane , or are the seats actually good enough that these small things dont matter that much for the extra comfort in economy??

Thanks to the seat reviews etc on here, Ive bagged 74A & 74C in PE for the return flight.

These are the best seats to have from a comfort point of view,however you will be last off the aircraft.

IIRC, you will be served first. Galley starts serving from the back and the front and work towards the middle of the cabin, so you should get your first choice, and a warm one at that.

THe only downside, as mentioned in the seat ratings page is the proximity to the toilets with these last few rows, but its a fair enough exchange for having the 'couple seats'

Personally, with these seats, i think the extra room is all in the mind!

If you've ever experienced the joys of US immigration you'd know you want to be as close to the front as possible!

I think these seats are the best in economy on the 744. You don't have that 3rd person constantly asking to get out every five minutes.[:(!] I sat in these seats to and from LAX several times and would sit in them again with no complaints.

You do get served first as the service starts at the front and back and works towards the middle.

Yes the toilets are at the back but there is enough room for people to queue near the toilets and doors so they don't hang about the aisle like on the 340's.

So what if you're last off the plane - I'd rather have a nicer seat on a long haul flight and wait a few minutes at immigration than have a mediocre seat nearer the front and be straight through immigration.

And because of the early arrival of the VS45 into JFK - there is never a problem with long immigration queues. It's usually just the Virgin flight in at that time[:X]

Have to agree fully with this, what's a slight delay at immigration compared to a more comfortable long haul flight.

Have been in row 62 many times and always try to book these seats whenever possible. True, the legroom is probably no more than further forward, but they seem so much more spacious as they are only in pairs.

I would ( and have) sit as far forward as I coudl possibly get on the west bound flight - try to get to check in early and bag a bulkhead or exit seat - its true that the seats at the back are good coz they are 2's but on a day time fligth you dont need to sleep too much and being last off is a real pain at immigration!!!

On the way back 74a and c are absolutley fantastic seats, my faves in PE - good one!!!!

I'd definitely pass off the extra comfort for 7 hours than standing in a queue for (half) an hour less.

Im more of a night person anyway (late to bed anyways), plus I barely sleep eastbound - never mind westbound.
Few things to think about then & it might still come down to the toss of a coin.
Exit-row im not entirely sure about , although clearly has benefits (even the narrower seat - Im 19st / 6'3" tall) - moreso because I`ll be connecting from GLA & obviously I will get to LHR when BD5 gets to LHR.

Having travelled in the last few rows (we had the right-side 2 seats) on a 747-400 from LHR-SIN, I remember feeling quite sick at times. I think the problem was psychological, when I looked down the aisle towards the front of the plane it seemed like it went on for miles. I even remember thinking I could see if flexing side ways.

As for space, even thou there was 2 seats, you have to bare in mind that the width narrows towards the end. And yes, getting off was a pain in the ***.

These seats are a good choice for space/comfort when travelling in two in economy on a 744, however there are some further downsides apart from getting of last as Dave said above. These downsides include:
These are probably amoung the noisiest seats due to being behind the engines and the proximity to galley and WC.
These are probably the 'bumpiest' seats working on the basis that the further from the centre of the aircraft you go the more exagerated the bumps get.

I am sure some people will refute what I have said, and that is fine, I have no concrete evidence for either statement, this is just what I have found when I fly in these seats (which isn't often).

My folks love them btw, by preference when they fly econ they will always try to bag one of these last few rows.
