Actually - that's a point. This new water fountain in economy...

Is it "water cooler" style, with bottled water, or does it feed off the aircraft's water tanks? [:0]

I'd prefer it if it was a water coller style with indivual cups. Personally, I don't relish the opportunity of sharing a water fountain with 200+ other people.

The water fountains are a blast from the past , as I remember several airlines having these many years ago (I even think VS had them as I do remember tiny paper cups with a VS logo on them)

Thanks, vscss. So, for clarification - does the existing water that is given to Y passengers by crew come from the plane's tanks or from bottled water carried on the plane?



(James - the tiny branded paper cups are available in the toilets onboard - maybe that's where you've seen them?)

The water served at present in W/Y comes from the plane's water tanks.

Passengers in J get bottled water.

The tap water is safe to drink and has to past World Health Organisation standards!

For some reason, I thought it was always from bottled water [:0] (and to be honest, am a little concerned that it's not... [:I])

I'm sure the water in the tanks is made for drinking and that there's nothing to worry about, in any case it's probably just as good as the water for the fountains in my school which I have been drinking for years without any problems...I think.

Could get a bit messy! 200+ passangers heading for the fountains, trying to pass each other in the aisles whilst carrying cups of water!

I think I'd rather have Juice...... although water throughout the flight, 'on-demand' as it were, it s fantastic idea!

There is not enough space to carry enough bottled water for a 12 hour flight and also these days with the fuel being so expensive is a waste of money, especially when the water in the tanks is perfectly ok to drink.

I have been drinking the water for over 6 years and I am still here!!!:D:D

The water in those tanks are fine. It's not unusual to find bacteria in water tanks used for drinking not just on planes but numerous places.

Really really pleased about this. I get extremely thirsty on flights and can't just drink booze the whole time on long haul... [:w]

It should make life a little easier for FA's too, particularly during their breaks.

It does not bother me one bit that the water is from the tanks - I get so thirsty on some flights that I have had a quick drink from the sinks in the loo [:$] It's not that I really crave the water - my mouth and throat get really dry because of the air conditioning.

I doubt it will get that many passengers going to it at once. Remember, this isn't replacing the drink service already in place in EC and PE, it's just an addition.

Seems like a sensible idea - Ive had water in Economy before , definately from a bottle. Had to buy it on Ryanair[:o)]
Seriously though - I got bottled water on both Lufthansa & Air New Zealand flights, poured from the bottle into the cup.
Ive also had it from a jug - had presumed it was bottled first , I figure this comes from the tanks instead then[:$]

I have seen BA staff refill bottles from the water tank when they ran out of bottled water .

Unless you opened the water bottle, you have no idea where it is coming from!

This is nothing new, the 747 classics had little water dispensers and little paper cups. They were situatued by the toilets if memory serves me correctly.

TBH i'm sure the water is fine to drink and there is some high quality filtration on board.

I've drunk water fron a tap on an aircraft and have to say it was ok, after all spent manny years specializing in RO desalination plants for the marine industry and when on a course in CA we had to sample water from various sources and it wasnt till the end they told us one of them was fluid from a place you'd rather not know[V][:$]

Next time i'm on a flight i'll take my water test meater to see how clean it is.

I flew with Cathay Pacific before and they only use water from the tank in Economy!

On top of their carts for each service they have water jugs!

If we refil the bottles then we take the labels off so we all know its tap not bottled.

Its not as if water fountains are something new on aircraft!
I first saw them on widebodied planes during the mid seventies.

Used to make good use of these when flying PanAm in the seventies and eightees. If memory serves me they used to dispense lemon/orange powder so you could flavour the water slightly.

I got a couple of bottles on ANZ last Oct on the LAX - LHR flight & I had to open them:)
Outbound it was from a jug, so no doubt the tanks - nevertheless, until this post I never realised & by the time I fly again in June (or earlier if I can squeeze it in) I`ll no doubt have forgetten.
