Upgrading

I have booked flight to Orlando in August travelling PE. I paid full fare for my ticket and used my points to get a companion flight for my Husband. My husband then used his points to buy two tickets for my son and mother using miles and money, we then paid full fare for my youngest son. If I wanted to upgrade one leg of the journey to UC, will I be able to do this on the companion and the two reduced fare tickets. Any help would be greatly appreciated.[?]

OK - forgetting the "at the airport" scenario, where cash is King, here's the state of play:

Full fare tickets can be upgraded with either miles or cash
Companion tickets cannot be upgraded prior to departure
Miles + Money cannot be upgraded prior to departure


So it could be you and the youngest in the front, and the others down the back I'm afraid. However - as I said - at the airport, all bets are off so it's worth asking

Neither Companion or M&M fares are officially upgradeable - although it never hurts to ask on the day.

I thinks it's unlikely you'll get 5 upgrade seats available in UCS for MCO.

AFAIK, you will not be able to upgrade the companion seat, but you will be able to upgrade the full-fare seat that the companion went with..

MpM cannot be upgraded as per the fare rules

Firsly, why not speak to the VS call centre as you may be able to something like the following:

Upgrade the Full Fare to a Full Fare J class (but this will cost you £4k plus) and ask if you can then have the companion changed to a UC companion and pay the extra with miles.
Also ask if there are any MpM fare Z fares and if you can change your existing ones to these and pay the difference.

So in summary the official fare rules do not allow for upgrades but VS always looking to maximise revenue MAY allow you to trade in your seats for higher value ones if availability allows and at their discretion.

The final option is wait until you arrive at the airport and try to upgrade on the day. If the flight is undersold this may be possible.
