Hi Guys,

I have a K class PE fare to LAS on 26th Feb 2006, and would like to upgrade to UC on the way out. Looking on expert flyer, there seems to be approx 3/4 seats left in UC on this flight with 2 weeks to go.

So...

1) What are my chances of ringing VS and them allowing me to upgrade with miles to UC from K? Any tricks I can employ?

failing that

2) What are the chance of being able to use my miles to upgrade at the airport if there are still seats available when I check in (Am currently FC Red but after this flight will go to Silver)

and also

3) If i do get an upgrade, do I still earn miles and TPs on that flight (I guess only at 150%)?

Thanks in advance, oh fountains of wisdom

Alex.

You are not able to upgrade K fares using miles. If at the airport there is still availability in UC and Econ or PE is oversold they you may well have some luck upgrading using miles or money. You will only know on the day.

Editted to add that you will earn miles and TP on the fare class you have paid for. So in this case K.

All the best

If upgrading at the airport, can I do it at the checkin desks or would I need to go to ticketing?

Thanks

kapowuk,
Welcome to V-Flyer.

Your best best is to do the upgrade request at the ticket counter. Also, keep in mind that the LAS flights have limited UC capacity; thus, snagging upgrades on these trips is more difficult. Still, never hurts to inquire!

Have a wonderful trip.

As has already been mentioned, you cannot upgrade a 'K' PE with miles, you would first need to upgrade to an 'S' PE using cash.

Then, to upgrade your 'S' fare with miles you will first need to check there is availability in 'G' which is an UC reward fare (this can be done by booking a dummy reward flight using the date you are actually flying, I've just checked on the date you fly and there's no availability).

I think your only chance would be to upgrade to UC using just cash I'm afraid which could be pricey and even then would depend on availability and loads (which are usually pretty high on the LAS route). I would say go straight to the ticket desk although I think check-in probably could do the transaction but might just send you to ticketing anyway.

For clarification, this includes airport upgrades. If you upgrade using cash at the airport, on the day of travel, you will earn miles/tier points for an Upper Class flight.

Sorry to be slightly picky here.....but that's not strictly true as I've paid to upgrade before from a V Hols 'H' PE fare and been but in 'G' in Upper, therefore only getting PE miles/TP's

Not sure if this upgrade was done correctly or not though (it was done in BOS a few years ago)

Ah, sorry - yes, there are a few cases of people getting bunged into a G bucket. However, in the main, it's put into Z at the airport I believe.

Maybe this is a quirk relating to how they deal with H (Virgin Holidays) bookings?
