Hello all,

This is perhaps more of an academic exercise since it's not ultimately going to be a problem for me but what would people suggest as the best/cheapest to obtain a single TP to obtain gold status?

Now, I've got until November this year to get this final TP and I'm sure I'll fly with Virgin at some point before then to get to gold, but if there are alternate routes people would recommend, I'd be interested to hear them!

Can you do a BMI business class flight that will get you one? Other then that N fares will get one TP from 1st March.

Hi Mat,

Yes, I think BMI Business would be the best "single TP" route if I didn't have the time to fly long-haul anywhere. :)

Hmm, I wonder if other BMI Gold DC members can answer this follow-up question for me. If I book an economy flight with BMI to Dublin and I then use an upgrade voucher to move to Business class, would this give me a claimable Business Class boarding pass?

BMI no longer have a business class into Dublin, they still fly business into Belfast. Since they introduced the new modular service the service has gone severly downhill, however I have noticed an increase in price.

Umm - actually, not true.

BMI had their hand forced by an award that came from Dublin's chamber of commerce (or similar) for their business class cabin. (The had to reinstate it VERY quickly ;))

Business class is still very much alive and kicking on the DUB-LHR route.

Excellent, so I can still fly to Dublin in a slightly wider seat!

So, the question remains - would an upgraded-via-voucher seat give me my 1 TP? :)

you have to provide original ticket with your boarding pass to obtain miles & tier points - so in answer to your question, upgraded seats using your voucher does not get you the extra miles or tier points, sorry...

if you wish to earn 1 tp, then buy a bmi return, 1 sector business restricted & 1 sector baby and that will save you doing the whole trip in business at an over inflated bmi price...

Randal,

Aren't you going to SFO to see mcmbenjamin break the world record at the Bay to Breakers race?[8D]:D Better save those quid! Ben needs a cheering gallery.[y] With some of the wonderful VS sales to the US, you could do this.

You made my day Chuck! :D BTW I have an idea for you. I bet Paul will beat me as a result his training/exercise [:o)]

Honestly randalf I would go to NYC/BOS for the weekend in economy. A return a month out on British Midland to Dublin out in Business and back economy is about GBP205 pre-tax; unless work is paying the tab.

As many of you know, thursday is the day that I get things of my chest,so I have to say that I have sat here watching this thread for the last two days shaking my head.A couple of people that have posted here should know better [B)][n]

Please remember this is V-Flyer,not A'Net or FlyerTalk or any of those "other" forums.

We do NOT go to the airport just to catch a shuttle to DUB to get a single Tier Point like any regualr airline pax can do,we do it with style.

Hence my idea to get that much needed tier point.

Get a reward UC flight to Hong Kong.

Catch a flight down to Sin on SQ to enjoy a couple of Sq slings at the bar.

Back up to Honk Kong and the flight home.

I know it wont be the cheapest, but you get to enjoy all those flights and some time in Sin just to get,1 tier point [y] [:w]

Ha ha ha! Jetwet, that's a great idea! :D

However, a "vanilla" flight on Virgin to the States would suit me just fine, too. :) And hey, me and the missus *did* have our honeymoon in San Francisco...
