Voted B in the end (EGG I'm on your bus this time - you're not the only B in the village). For me, C was a non-starter, shouldn't have had any expectation of UC food whereas the other 2 should. Making assumptions, but I guess most leisure travellers try for Z whereas most business people would go for J for flexibility. As such, I think the meal is probably far more significant as part of the overall experience for the leisure traveller.

I regularly travel the west coast mainline on a fully flexible first class ticket but am very jaded with the food, most of the time I don't bother. But you can tell the people who've "splashed out" on a discounted fare a mile away, and they're mostly delighted by it. Only problem with this comparision is that there is no competition on the route, if there was might I change to an operator with better food? Probably not, I'm more likely to be influenced by convenience of timing than anything else.

Regards

Pat

I went for A

Firstly, they paid more - you get what you pay for. Also, as other people have said, they are a potential future client, whereas the other two are not likely to ditch VS over a steak.

How about who ever ordered it first?

Thats what I think. My opinion is that it doesn't matter how any of them got into UC, they're there now and they should get the same service as every other UC passenger. Whoever ordered first should get it.

How would you determine who ordered it first if the order was given to different cabin crew? Would that lead to a catfight in the galley? [:0]:D

In that case, I'd eat it myself!

Nope I don't think you are living in CC Land. They may not know the exact details but they do know who are Z's, J's and G's I am sure.

Clearly I'm not an expert in this subject but I'm sure I've seen a list in the galley of who is au etc.

We dont know what each customer pays for there ticket.

We also dont know who has been upgraded (except staff) as this ensures every one receives the same service!!

After all the person who has been upgraded from PE may be so impressed with the service that on there next trip they just book J.

If it was me I would ask a customer who is NOT a member of the flying club.

After all our flying club customers are the most valuable!!!

Now that is interesting feedback as the print outs that I have seen show which fare class people have paid, I was told this recently when I asked a FSM about order for IFBT and meals in relation to people that had bought a revenue UC fare and who had been upgraded, and this was confirmed to me in writing by customer relations upon my return (the crew asked CR to write to me).

Very strange. But then it wouldn't be the first time that I have been told wrong information by a member of crew or custoemr relations.

Thanks,
Richard

When I flew back from SFO I saw the PAX sheet and it showed class for UC (G,Z,D or J) but this was in the clubhouse. Surely the same information would be passed to the crew!

Seen the same sheet on board. It also had golds added in pen

I'll second sailor - seen the sheet stuck to the wall outside the J galley. I've never felt too comfortable standing in the gangway reading the sheet to see what information is on it.

Seen the sheet on the wall near the galley, and also had a sneaky look at the passenger manifest which has the fare basis of all passengers and FC status!

Thanks,
Sarah

Just to add to what Declan said:

From the passenger manifest in Upper Class we know

1/ Passengers names
2/ Flying Club status 006/007/008/009 etc
3/ Staff passengers

We have no idea who pays what for their ticket, the same way that we don't know who has been upgraded. The only way we would know onboard is for the passenger to tell us face-to-face. In the clubhouse they would know for sure who has paid for what as they can look at the ticket (if it is a paper one) or look in the computer.

PS. I was once working on the 600 with a full J cabin (45 pax) - 20 of whom were upgrades (due to a massive overbooking in Y and PE) and we had no idea who they were and because of that, we also had no idea of who had paid to sit to J. After a while though you could work out who some of the upgrades were because they ordered EVERYTHING on the menu and kept asking when their treatments were going to be.

Thanks for that Tinkerbelle, although i swear i have been told by crew before that they know who has been upgraded (to ensure that full fare paying pax get priority in terms of meals/treatments etc). The mystery thickens.

Im convinced that i have seen fare basis for passengers on the manifest as well? Although i guess unless you know what you are looking for it wouldnt stick out?

Still, teaches me to be nosy!

Thanks,
Sarah

If you're talking about the order sheets that crew write down all the meal orders on, people read them but could be mistaking a crew members shorthand for something else. If we had found out from the passenger themselves as well about being an upgrade, we could make a note of it making people think that we know where all the upgrades are.

I think that once upon a time we knew who had been upgraded but they stopped telling us as they wanted to ensure that everyone received the same level of service[:X]

I must admit the sheet I am thinking off was the meal sheet. Also I am thinking back a few years, so possibly it has less info on. The one in particular I was thinking about must be 3 years ago, was a return from PVG and I only remember it because I was marked down on it as an ugrade.

We do not have any idea on what customers have paid for there tickets and also no idea of fare classes, codes or fare basis!!

We used to get a list of who has been upgraded but now we do not know, except for staff!

As Tinkerbelle says the list does say who is a flying club member and also displays those frequent flyers of other airliners such as Continental!!

On the customer order sheet we always write the names of our customers and also there flying club status so we can ensure your looked after:D:D

Beleive me this is the truth and there is not much to lie about with regards to the customer manifest.

One of the best things about having staffers around is that they can put urban myths like this to rest. [y]

Absolutely, i believe you too Declan!

Interesting that you guys no longer know who has been upgraded. I can see merits on both sides of the fence, but im not opening a can of worms on that one in this thread.

Thanks for sharing what you guys know!
