Lets be honest there is nothing wrong with BA. Ok their long haul staff are on the "old side" and their IFE is pathetic. But their economy has more room then Virgin, in fact I just read on http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/vir_atl.htm and nothing but compaints about Virgin economy. We have to accept that if Virgin can offer a superb UC and PE thety will have to do something on the economy level to make them stand apart from the others . I really think Virgin UC and PE is very good but the economy just is not up to standards with others. I have read reports in Cathy / Singapore / Thai all economy and all seem to be ok - Virgin reports are not good

Is this the new topic you are referring to here?.

If so, how does this topic tie into a light hearted discussion about v-flyer councelling?

We are working on our Economy Product now. All I can say is watch this space. What I have been told and seen so far is very good and its going to get us back up there where we used to be. We have not forgot about it. You will also see some exciting changes in Premium Economy soon.

Economy is already starting to see improvements with the launch of the new Y seat as featured on one aircraft already!

By the end of the year all current A340-600 will have the new Y and PE seat fitted!!

Also try posting a positive trip report on airlinequality and you will see that it never gets displayed, however post a bad one and it is on the site within 24 hours!!

They post only the bad ones and not the good ones!!

that sounds fantastic as it would put Virgin onto onother level. I know there is not a lot that can be really done with economy buy I feel they really need to do something to give that area a little more space

Look mate. I am really sorry to be so thick, but you wrote a good what for BA and what are you going to write about VS UC? What do you hope will happen, and what has it got to do with VS Y needing improvement?

I flew BA Y about 18 months ago, couldn't say no to the price, honestly,I flew on a 744 and the seat beat the heck out of the VS one, food was about the same,IFE was the same level as the older VS ones, cabin crew were great.

I chose to fly Virgin because of the good things I heard from friends and colleagues about the service. Everyone has an opinion and I think people naturally complain more than praise, so it was a good sign that people were positive about Virgin. That's Virgin economy not UC.

I've not flown Virgin yet and when I do (next month) it will be a fair comparison between other Y products as I have never flown in PE or UC/First on any airline. I can't wait to post that trip report - lets hope it is a positive experience.

I have to come clean here and admit that, when I've flown with BA, I've never found anything wrong with it. What DOES put me off, however, is the alarming frequency with which industrial action rears its ugly head.

Changes to PE would be most welcome too. As discussed elsewhere, there's a strong feeling that it's very overdue and the the current PE deal is really not worth much at all.

Well, I had a nosey at Air New Zealand's new Pacific Premium Economy while on my recent trip.

The seats don't look quite as good as the PE seats on VS, except maybe better than the "plastic terror" seats which came with the introduction of v:port. The old and latest VS PE seats seem slightly better than the ANZ ones, but the seat pitch seem to be the same on both carriers.

ANZ PE shares lavs with Business Premier, so get really nice Living Nature toiletries (handwash and lotions), and fabric handtowels. The standard of the ANZ lavs put the VS Upper Class ones to shame.

The main meal selection in ANZ PE is the same as that served in Economy (and that didn't look too bad!), but a few things cross-over from Business Premier, so the PE pax get the same drinks selection as Business (served in glassware rather than plastic), the same cheese and port options as Business, and the individual water bottle as well.

Just some really basic food tweaks would improve VS PE in my books.

But, as VS and ANZ seem to be co-operating a lot at the moment, I wonder if they are sharing these sorts of ideas as well?

If they are sharing ideas, I wish VS would take a leaf out of ANZ's book on aircraft presentation. All the Air New Zealand planes I travelled on were seriously clean - from the lowly Beech 1900 prop, through the 737, to the 777 and 744.

VS aircraft are filthy dirty by comparison - which I personally put down to Fernley (VS' cleaning subcontractor in London) being stunningly bad at their job. I hope ANZ cleaning standards don't slip, as they are moving their turnaround cleaning in AKL to contract as well.

Just a bit of attention to aircraft presentation would really improve the VS product as well - like doing a proper job of cleaning out seat pockets, properly cleaning and sanitising tray tables, and polishing windows (on the inside), rather than wiping them with what appears to be a damp, dirty rag (to get rid of all that vile grease from people's hair).

Cheers,
Mike

Can anyone say if we will see any of the PE improvements for our trip to LA in mid August.

VS is on a par with every other Y class I have ever flown they are all bloody awful:D.
Seriously there is no real difference between VS and BA Y both are tight for space,BA slightly more pitch, VS better IFE, food and service similar.
PE and WT+ again similar but I do prefer BAs seat over the new PE seat.I opted for BA on a last minute booking for easter only because VS wanted £4500 for 4PE seats BAs price was £2900,a no brainer.

I always fly VS longhaul, apart from when they don't serve my destination.

I flew CO LGW-IAH a few years ago and it was very simmilar to VS, apart from the crew were twice as old and (although better than BA) the IFE was cr*p compared to V:Port.

Then in Feb. I flew AA LHR-ORD, they had slightly wider seats but the IFE sucked! And the crew could have been my grandmother.

Next year we're planning to go to BOS. And even though I prefer AA and BA's daytime flights- I'd rather do a red eye on VS. There's somthing addictive about them.

But for my Uncle whos 6'7- he chose AA's inferior product for YEARS because of the extra room in Y. Now if VS could just give an extra inch to every Y passenger, there'd be nothing to fault! It'd compliment the amazing entertainment and fab crew!
