I don't think the 787 would sit well with the VS fleet - having a/c with commonality with the fleet (A330, A350) would be far more beneficial. This would create greater effeciency when loads are down on certain routes while maximising profits when loads are up if they can swap say an A330 with an A346 on a particular day.

Well if VS gets 748s they'd probably get a bit of a discount and they'd get it much earlier than 787s, although the cockpit should (well I don't actually know, but it would make sense) be the same as 744s.

Business Traveller today says:

"Ground breaking news in the next day or two. It might just be!"

To coincide with the relaunch of the ORD service ... hmmm rum!

The order will be for Boeing, with the 787 being the favourite.

If the announcement is to coincide with the ORD relaunch I assume it will be made by SRB in Chicago and will be Boeing - after all announcing Airbus purchases in Chicago is probably not the best PR exercise.

Could these replace the 747-400's? Some are getting quite old now

If it's Boeing, and it's replacing the 744, then surely it has to be the 748? A 787 isn't a replacement for the 744 by any measure. The 748 would certainly be a better fit for VS's operation.

If it is to replace 747's then it will be the 748 not the 787- after all, as Pete said, the 787 replacing the 744 doesnt fit.

To be honest, and I am willing to eat my words, last year it was the 330, last month it was that VS were getting the ANA 744's that are being retired at the moment, then it was the 787 and so on- it seems that there is a different rumour each day for VS.

As I said in previous posts in simular topics- really VS could order anything including the 330, 346, 748, 77W, 787, even more 380s! The question is "do they need to order anything", at the moment my honest view is no (as much as I would love to see nw a/c in the fleet). The airline has gone on record to say they are slowing their growth and have as a result defered the last 346 orders.

I have said it before and will say it again, I will believe nothing until I hear it from SRBs mouth. :)

Willd, i'm with you on that one. The industry is full of rumours & talk is cheap, the A346 & A380 aircraft orders prove it. Regardless of what VS say they'll get, i'll believe it when it's in paint!!!

The latest rumour is for 15 787's, they had an offer of A350's but VS have been bitten once by Airbus with the A346 & won't repeat it in a hurry!!!!!!
