I had similar problems when I booked my flight to Boston for this summer. Expedia showed a 747-400 and VS website showed a leased 747-200 (they even had a note up to say its a leased air atlanta with virgin livery/service etc). They also said the flight was from LGW to BOS!!!!
My email to Virgin....

Please note that flights between London Gatwick / Boston and vice versa, are subject to government approval. These flights will be operated by Boeing 747-200 aircraft leased by Virgin Atlantic from Air Atlanta. However, you can expect the same high level of service as our regular operated flights, including full Virgin Atlantic livery, our own crew and award winning entertainment.

Virgin do not fly from Gatwick to Boston. Is it true though about the 747-200 flying this route?
Thanks

Thank you for your email.
I have checked our website and the message that you quote is being displayed online. This message is incorrect and I have reported this to our website team. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Virgin Atlantic Airways are not looking to operate a service to Boston from London Gatwick and nor are our flights to be operated by an Air Atlanta Boeing 747-200 aircraft. We already have one service from London Heathrow to Boston, the VS 11. We are in the process of introducing a second service, the VS 53, also from London Heathrow to Boston.
I am sorry for the incorrect information that has been given online. If you wish to make a reservation, please do so online or call our Contact Centre where any of our advisors will be happy to assist.
