Forgive me if this is old news, but when you go to the 'Manage your flights' section of the Virgin Atlantic website. In addition to the API, seat changes, frequent flyer number, eticket and meal preference options, there if another button; 'Stretch out in comfort'.
This option gives you the price of a one way or return paid upgrade.
This sounds an excellent idea. I have no idea if the price will vary as the flight gets closer, or if a mileage upgrade will be offered if you are booked in the right fare bucket.
It is currently offering me a one way PE - UC upgrade for my BOS flights in February for 837 outbound 852 inbound or 1649 return.
That price seems quite high, but I like the principal of the function.
