Now that is a really friendly service. Your certainly don't get that with BA!

I've done that twice in the past few weeks on my Jersey commute downroute with BA. And on both occasions, due to unexpected circumstances (weather on one occasion and a fire near the airport the next), ended up with them as crew back home, and they were on great form.

Thanks for all your reply's.

I thought of another pet peeve of the crews. Passengers that go mental when you run out of meal options or ask 'Don't you have anything else as my child is a fussy eater.'
WE HATE running out of meals as it makes our livese more difficult....but when we do there is nothing we can do about it. So yelling at us and telling us it is 'not good enough' and trying to give us attitude the rest of the flight does not help the situation. As for children with fussy dietary needs, pack snacks and sandwiches if you know your children are fussy eaters.

People with attitude about plane meals really p*** me off as a fellow passenger. If their child is a fussy eater - the ONLY people to blame for that are the parents for pandering to it. Make 'em starve - they'll soon start eating.

I love VS cabin crew - you all do a fab job and make a very long boring flight a heck of a lot more pleasant.

Having experienced all three cabins (Economy, PE and UC) on the LGW - BGI route over the past 5 years I have nothing but praise for all the CC I have had dealings with. Nothing has ever been two much trouble regardless of where I have been in the plane.

On my last two trips my wife has come with me. She spent the first 50 years of her life afraid of flying she now loves it and I would put this largely down to VS CC who on her first VS flight made her feel so at ease she now can't wait for our next trip.

Having flow with many different airlines nothing I have experienced to date matches the service provided by VS CC.

Keep up the good work as this is largley what VS's reputation is built upon.

Thanks for that. Through reading these forums it always gives me, as a crew member, the boost to keep smiling and going out of my way for passengers. A lot of times these things go unappreciated by the people we are helping. A prime example being a male passenger on a last flight going mental over not getting his meal option. So a really lovely female crew member walked away from the cart and returned with her own beef meal from the crew oven and served it to the passenger. The gentleman (loose term) then went on to loudly proclaim to those around 'Ye see! You make enough noise you always get what you want.'

Luckily you lot make me continue to believe that it's worth it.

GGGGGrrrrrr - what gives anyone the right to speak to someone else like that? Honestly - sometimes people need a good slap to get a reality check! (not suggesting VS cabin crew start slapping pax!!)

Yes...., you could use a Knuckle-Duster for Y Pax, bare hand for W and, of course, a white gloved hand for J. [:D]

what about those of us who travel on the most budget class - even less than Y? ...... just a simple open handed slap? Works for me!!! LOL.

That was JUST what I was thinking... It is just a sad reflection on society - lots of people out there with severely poor manners: I see it every day (and I am not even in a service industry) [:#].

People should be good mannered, polite and grateful... I hate passengers who aren't since it gives the rest of us a bad name... [:(!]

In the restaurant trade - if someone is being awkward - their meal might come with 'extras' (hmmm) - do CC ever get tempted to follow this trend? (In my line of work - if kids are being awkward, we just give rubbish marks and their parents do the 'slapping' for us!)

Oh how I would have longed to reply in cutting tones something along the lines of 'Yes, we got what we wanted. Confirmation of the fact that you are an ignorant a$$**** with no manners whatsoever'

Unfortunately he is absolutely right, and the precedent has been set. People in service industries will often back down to try and please the customer, even though the customer is in the wrong. I am with HL and Catherine on this one. It is a pity more people don't stand up to the moaners and the DYKWIA brigade, but we know that - if they did they would soon be out of a job. [n]

Oh this is a good topic to discuss!

well as cabin crew myself these are mine

1. what is the problem with us seeing your boarding cards as you board the aircraft? we ask pax to see them to verify they are on the correct flight and on the correct day.I have come across really rude pax when i ask to see the boarding cards.Strange one that one.[:?]

2.come and say hello to us we dont bite and most of us like a wee chat.[:D]

3.stinky feet! my pet hate.If your little dainty footsies have a nasty whiff then leave your socks on and cover them with one of the blankets.Dont leave your bare feet hanging out of the row whilst you are lying down.[:$]

4.Please god make sure you put your toilet tissue down the toilet and not leave it lying on the toilet floor or in the basin. It may be a cultural thing and lock the bliming door!I hate walking into the toilet whilst doing my checks to find either a man or woman sitting there looking surprised.[:I]

5.When we are doing our manual demo please, please pay attention and not carry on having a conversation whilst we show you what to do in a emergency. We are here for your safety if anything god forbids happens do you know where your nearest exit is?[V]

6.when you bring on your hand luggage and if its too heavy for you to put in the overhead locker what makes you think we can?we dont mind helping you but dont expect us to put it up on our own and damage our spines.[n]

Ami being a bit too harsh?[:#]

Ah, you've touched on one of my pet hates, not sure you guys and gals can do anything about it...

The amount of 'hand' luggage some people seem to be able to get on board, leaving no room in the overheads where I am sitting!!!

I seem to be late to the show but will try and give a couple of my thoughts.

Loves:
1. Staff that are genuienly in love with the VS brand and their job.
2. CC that go that little extra mile (my flight this week back from MCO had one of those rare gems onboard)
3. Crew who want to talk about their job and can recognise someone with a bit of aviation knowledge.

Hates:
1. Crew who lie
2. Crew who talk about passengers loudly, I recently heard a crew member claim very loudly 'God I need Valium to get me though this flight'.
3. Smiling and being polite but getting a rude response back, guess that can apply both ways.
4. Galley out of bounds.
5. The loos. This has been discussed at length on this thread but the state of the loos on Monday night was disgusting.
6. Wine not being served to those who have special meals.
7. Crew hugging. This one really annoyed me recently. Can you imagine what it would look like in Sainsburys or HSBC? I mean come on keep your hands off each other, especially as there is high probability you didnt know each other until you meet in each other in the crew room.

In general though I think you guys do a great job. One I don't envy you for it. Its not as glamourous as some think, no idea how you deal with the horrid dehydrated, bad skin, exhausted feeling I always get.

I always find this one a funny one... not on VS/BA, but on the US airlines... The times that I have had boarding pass stub in hand for a US domestic flight, I automatically try to show it to them as I board and they look at me as if I am insane... [?]

It seems that, in the US, they don't like double checking that you are on the right flight or heading towards the right seat...

So i still show my boarding pass automatically on international, but don't bother on internal US flights...

I have to arch an eyebrow at this one. What do you mean crew hugging? I would not walk down an aisle and hug a crew member, but I would do it in the galley. I have hugged several crewmembers before. Actually last week I had to hug a girl who sat down and cried in the galley of an Orlando flight. This job is stressful and demanding and there is no 30 minute break area to walk out and take a smoke. (Though its a bad habit and not one I participate in. Quit Smoking you lot!)

Also, we are a relatively small airline compared to some, and on average I know at least one crew member on each flight. We have either flown together, sat on the crew bus together, or have friends that know each other and have met that way. I just went on leisure travel and knew 4 of the crew the minute I walked onto the airplane. Also alot of crew rearrange their lives so they can travel together and be home together. However, even if we did not know each other, this job is just like that. You meet and in 5 minutes you both know each others life story and you depend on each other. Your a team. You need to count on each other in an emergency or to deal with rude passengers. It's just the way the job is.

Not having a go or anything, I just want to say that.

(And at Sainsbury's that really rude customer is not going to be sitting waiting for you to come back with a coffee for the next 8 hours.)

Doesn't bother me at all... I think it is sweet actually: quite a friendly thing to do.

If crews are friendly and work well together (added by the occassional hug), then they are probably happier and that helps them to deliever EVEN better service...

So keep hugging [8D]

In the example you give I would expect someone to give the girl a hug, heck if I saw that I would probably have gone up to see if she is ok.

What I am talking about is crew members being very touchy feely with other, arms round each other whilst stood at the end of the aisle seeing if the crew doing water runs need fill ups etc. I am not talking about comforting someone when they are upset, I am more talking about flirting with each other.

Whilst I appreciate it can be stressful climate, as any job can be, I certainly know that if I walked into a client meeting and turned round and started stroking my supervising partners arm it would get an odd look and I would get a telling off sharpish.

As a passenger it made me feel a bit uncomfortable. I am all for being a close knit team but I think air kisses (for no real reason), linking arms etc is going a bit OTT. Maybe I am a bit of a prude and too conservative I don't know.

What an awesome thread! How did I miss the beginning of this? (oh, yeah. I was in Vegas. nevermind.)

GG and the rest of you CCs: I worked at DISNEYLAND as a ride operator, sorry, Attractions Hostess (Pirates, Mansion, Rafts, etc), for seven years, and as a server at TGIFridays for another two. I KNOW AND UNDERSTAND YOUR PAIN. Personally, I don't know how any of you do it. [oo]

I've traveled exclusively Less-than-Y on VS, except for the last time we upgraded ourselves to UC. (I now buy everthing on the AmEx for this sole purpose.)

Hates (mostly other passengers who were raised under rocks [:(!] ):
- Pax who bring carry ons that are so large they should have their own seat. CHECK YOUR BAG.

- Pax who are rude, and don't pay attention during the safety spiel. I'm sorry, I don't care if you flew this very ac on the last flight, it's not only for your safety, but MINE as well. Shut the hell up. I don't want to have to knock you down on my way out. Safety first. Manners help too.

- Pax who complain about everything. Food, seat, air, IFE, booze, headphones, amenity kit, colour of amenity kit, blanket, pillow, queues, boarding area, the airport itself. What do you think anyone around you can DO about it? Do you think Richard Branson has somehow wired all the seats and is listening to your bitching? Do you think you'll magically get upgraded to UC if you complain loud enough? Write a letter to Corporate, fly another carrier, or don't fly at all if you hate it that much. Just please stop making everyone's life miserable around you. Manners.

- Pax who can't follow instructions. How hard is it really to keep your seat belt on during a flight? If we suddenly lose altitude, I don't want you landing in my lap.

- Sloppy pax - men AND WOMEN in the lavs. Sit ON the seat. Do your business. Clean up after yourself. You aren't the only person using it. The Magical Bathroom Cleaning Fairy is not on this flight.

- Loud pax. Turn down your volume please. I do not want to hear your life story throughout my flight, especially if you are three rows behind me on the other side of the ac. Again, manners.

- Pax who let their kids run around the cabin. WTF? [V] You should be on the never-fly-ever-again list.

What I have never experienced, but would be very disappointing:
- Being in UC, and not getting a Ninja sleep suit.

- Being in UC, and having the bar off-limits unless it was 45 min to landing.

- Having UC check-in take so long I get no time on The Jetsons set. Oh sorry, I mean the CH.

- Having some monster adults and children - see list above - in UC when I'm there too.

LOVES: [:X]
- Smiles. These are magical, and go forever.

- Asking me if I need anything, and how everything is, and meaning it.

- Topping off my beverage until I beg you to stop.

- Asking before clearing. (Are you finished? Would you like more? Can I get you anything?)

- Loving your job, and the company you work for.

- The amazingly special, gifted people VS attracts as employees and hires. (Reminds me of Disneyland in the old days. (Not so much the studio, which I've also worked for...) Only a certain kind of personality can do what you do and not kill everyone in the process. So, THANK YOU. [oo]
