OK, prompted by the "what makes a good crew" and "differentiated service" threads, I'd like to ask for you to put yourselves into a member of cabin crew's shoes for a while...

(Mainly, because I'm just interested in what you all think ;))

So, you are a member of cabin crew, serving the Upper Class cabin. Steak's on the menu, and is very popular. Trouble is, although you have 3 passengers who requested it yet to be served, you only have ONE steak left. Who gets it?

(You can only pick ONE - You only have ONE steak, that cannot be shared [:0])

I've gone for 'C' as I would reward loyalty.

Personally, I went for A:

From a rather clinical perspective, they're spending nearly 3x as much as B, and around 10x as much as C. Not YET a flying club member, but a bad initial experience could cut that potential revenue stream instantly.

Like it or not, B & C are already "loyal" VS flyers. C is happy to have got a suite, and B has got what they paid for already (excl. the steak). If I annoy one of those, I have SOME loyalty "in the bank" already, and I would guess they'll fly with us again...

But that's just my opinion... [:0]

Pretty spot in reasoning - in my opinion.

The poll's a good indication though. Personally, I went for A.

For me same answer really with the same reasoning, I instnatly ruled out option C and then deliberated ont he other two. Next time you are onboard, look at the meal sheets used by the crew, you will see certain loyalty information is captured on the same piece of paper.;)

Thanks,
Richard

Very few "people" can fly J - it is normally booked for them by the company based on policy. If they WERE paying their own money they'd make d*** sure they were enrolled in FC. If they didn't care then it's unlikely one meal is going to be that big in the scheme of things. If they can't swing the booking themselves (company policy) then why appeal to their loyalty? [}:)]

Ooh - good point, Decker. (but you could happen across one of the few that can...?) They could be a CO Onepass member ;)

A lot of companies are booking Z's and K's now, too. [:?]

So which did you go for?

as a Z flying Au what do you think? ;)

I'm guessing none of them for Decker, as it is just not de rigeur to be seen trying to eat steak with plastic cutlery. Even if it is not going to match Ruth's finest!

Thanks,
Richard

Hmm... That's a bit of a toughie! Would Decker consider his Au or his Z more important..... [:?]

I had to go for A.

C was immediately off the list as he was an op-up and on a K. B just lost out due to the higher revenue fare of A. Tough one though.

Well let me take a guess

Preiffer A for reasons stated
Decker B for reasons implied
ME A but I dont care who gets the steak im asleep
Jenn A but again she wouldn't care she's hunting down the IFBT
Mcuth B but again doesn't care he's at the bar
LRoM ? he's just happy to of gotten the upgrade

Also I know this is nothing new,but the last few TR's I read didn't offer steak.

Preiffer - Pat on the back for the poll first up!! This is what makes this site the biz!! [^]

I am with you on the A choice - Future revenue potential must win...... To annoy a business passenger who hasn't paid for the ticket would be foolish. I'm sure most "company paid" passengers have a small say in who their made to fly with..........

Don't over cook that Steak!!!! [y]

What if option B passenger was on a flight that qualified him/her for Au?

Though it has to be A, margin rules the roost.

Interesting - when I flew LHR-DEL, I was informed that there was not enough salmon on-board for all those who requested it. I was also informed that "as you are silver - if you want it, I will make sure you have it" by the crew member. I was also flying on a discounted UC ticket!

Now I know where to come if a week today there's no steak on my Z Fare :D

B, because the Z passengers probably used hard earned cash of his/her own and will probably try hard to get to gold with loyalty.

Chances are the J is corporate money and the passengers opinion on the food won't matter to whoever booked the ticket and if a better deal came up on BA would probably have booked it instead.

Im new here - so dont be too hard on me [:$].
Valid point, however a quick look at VS website, check the Corporate and Tradesection.
If "A" was flying Virgin due to company policy , it would be highly likely that the company was part of Virgin's "Flying Co"?? Else why the policy??
In which case he would be entitled to earn points , which he maybe doesnt know - if booked by the company for him, its possible they would have handled the booking , not him!
Like others then - due to potential future loyalty (and higher fare paid), Id be more inclined to go for A as well.

I too, discounted C but if, when I was taking the orders and one of the others had been dithering about their choice I might consider going back and discussing it with the passenger. [:?] I know people will howl at me for that but I would be one of those passengers who, if I had been dithering, really wouldn't mind changing. In fact the last time steak was on the menu I dithered between it and duck ......and wished I had chosen duck!! After all someone has to be told that the steak isn't available.

I went for B, probably because I am B LOL. I would have given it to the op-up if he/she wasn't a frequent flyer, because he/she will be back ;).
