Hi,

I am flying to las vegas on an X ticket (2nd Sept) I have 11600 miles is it possible for me to upgrade to premium and will there be any extra costs involved?

Any info would be great!

Well, you have enough miles for a one way economy > premium upgrade (10k miles), BUT unfortunately, you don't have an upgradeable ticket type.

An X fare is too heavily discounted - you need either a Y, B or L ticket to be able to use miles.

Personally, I'd call FC to see how much it'll cost to switch to an L fare from yours. I have a feeling, however, that it'll either not be possible or cost in the region of £200. (And then you'll have to use your miles on top of that for your one-way PE)

I just gave them a call its only £125 difference I would have to pay to get an upgradeable ticket, however there is a £100 penalty for changing the ticket type (not too impressed about that!)

I shall have a think about it, if there was a way of getting round the penalty charge I would go for it!

Thanks for the info!

Flying TO Las Vegas, Ben - that (US) rule only applies to Ex-USA fares.

(The US terms and conditions on upgrading are different to the UK ones)

UK-Originating Upgradeable fares are: Y/B/L/S/W. (+ M in some cases)

Totally understand your frustration, Juulz. Have been there myself. [:(]

Unfortunately VS is merely doing what many/most other carriers do to help them better manage their seat and fare bucket inventory, i.e., charge a penalty to those who change their plans. The alternative, of course, is to buy tickets without change/x-cel penalties, but the only reason to do that IMHO would be if you were unsure of the date/routing or if you never planned to fly that carrier again or, perhaps you were wanting to participate in a "full fare, 2 for 1" ticket program.

Thanks for all your comments!

Think I will stick with economy this time, save my miles for another trip (any excuse to book another flight!)
