Just got a telex at work about an hour ago, which basically said:
"Do not send ANY passengers to CVG for connecting flights to ANY northeastern airport. They will be stranded in CVG. Due to the volume of diverted flights, cancelled flights, and out of position aircraft, CVG currently has no available hotel rooms. Thanks."
US Airways at the airport I work at was only able to dispatch one aircraft to PHL all day- the 0630 service actually departed around 1430. Everything is just a mess- we got a list of about 40 flights that are being ferried to get aircraft in usable positions, because everything is so screwed up.
We share op's frequencies with a couple european cargo airlines, and were fortunate enough to whitness a conversation this afternoon between a european cargo flight and their operations in New York. Apparently they thought they would be landing at JFK, only to find that JFK had like 2 feet of snow. The rather unhappy captain finally agreed to divert to Washington, Dulles after he burned 6,000 pounds of fuel in a holding pattern. Apparently nobody told him it was supposed to snow
